A guide provided by Vanencia Community College, Orlando, Florida. This page, titled "Internet Search Strategies Chart" is arranged in four major parts:

  1. Search Directories charts the differences by which "About.com," "Librarian's Index Internet," "and "Yahoo!" incorporate Boolean Operators, Phrase Searching, Truncation, Field Searching, Nesting of Keywords, and Case Sensitivity.
  2. Search Engines charts the differences by which "Alta Vista," "Google," "HotBot," "MSN," and "Teoma" incorporate Boolean Operators, Phrase Searching, Truncation, Field Searching, Nesting of Keywords, and Case Sensitivity.
  3. Web Meta-Search Engines charts which web engines are or are not searched by "Boogie," "Lxquick," "ProFusion," "Surfwax," and "Vivismo."
  4. Evaluating Internet Resources provides a caution about the variable reliability of web sites and links to five remote sites which give advice on how to evaluate web resources.


COMMENT:

A useful guide, particularly valuable for its succinct summary of the characteristics of various search directories and search engines, as well as its links to guidance on evaluating web sites.
