LITIR DATABASE ON VICTORIAN STUDIES

DESCRIPTION:

LITIR now publishes a VICTORIAN DATABASE ONLINE that allows for author and keyword searches, Boolean searching, and multiple-format saving. The database consists of about 105,000 records of books, articles, and dissertation abstracts published from 1945 to the present in all fields of nineteenth-century British studies for the period 1830-1914. For authors like Hardy, scholarship on works published after this period may not be included.

In addition, LITIR publishes a printed Annual Bibliography of Victorian Studies (1970-present) with various cumulations, and, also an annually updated Victorian Studies database on CD-ROM from 1945 to the present.

The opening page also includes links to the following sub-pages: "Recent Books," "Recent Articles," "Critic's Choice," "Announcements and Queries," and "Victoriana on the Web."

COMMENT:

Requires personal or institutional subscription and password for full searching, but a free registration and one-month trial period is offered. The LITIR database is continually being updated at about 5000 records a year, and, also, extended further backward in time; but it is by no means complete and needs to be supplemented by reference to the MLA, MHRA, VS, and other specialized bibliographies. Check the website for information on its current status.

"Recent Books" provides selected citations to about fifty books; "Recent Articles" provides citations to articles appearing in about 20 journals related to the Victorian Period (but not the Thomas Hardy Journal). "Critic's Choice" provides quotations from reviews of a limited number of favorably reviewed books. "Announcements and Queries" provides space for annoumcents and calls for paper or contributions. "Victoriana on the Web" provides links to four Victorian-related sites, each briefly described.
