PROJECT MUSE
DESCRIPTION:
Address: http://muse.jhu.edu/
Contact: Unidentified
Date: 07/01/04
A searchable index to over 100 scholarly journals. Searching is available for
journals ranging from American Imago, and American Jewish
History, to World Politics and The Yale Journal of Criticism--including ELH, Modern Fiction Studies, New
Literary History, and Philosophy and Literature.
Search results are presented in groups of ten documents, and
allow for display of the document itself in which all references
to the search term are highlighted. Full searching requires institutional subscription but many academic research libraries are subscribers.
COMMENT:
What is
notable about the "Project Muse" search engine is that
it locates all variant forms of "Hardy" in many
texts which otherwise would not appear in standard searches of
the MLA and MHRA bibliographies. References to
Hardy appear, for example, in such unexpected journals as Literature
and Medicine, as well as in such more predictable journals
as ELH and Modern Fiction Studies.
SUMMARY:
Useful for providing immediate access to the texts of the journals covered. For someone pursuing an unusual research topic--e.g., Thomas
Hardy and Alcoholism--this database could also provide information not
to be found elsewhere.
