Online Safety

Online safety was a primary topic during the second annual Technology Fair held on February 9th at SUNY Fredonia. In addition to a presentation provided by a SUNY Fredonia Helpdesk Technical Specialist, SUNY Fredonia was fortunate to have Ms. Jayne Hitchcock as a guest lecturer and training facilitator. Ms. Hitchcock is the President of W.H.O.A. (Working to Halt Online Abuse) which is an advocacy organization for victims of cyber crime. Additionally, Ms. Hitchcock travels extensively as a cyber crimes expert, conducting training seminars for law enforcement and security technicians.

Ms. Hitchcock shared valuable advise during her guest appearance at Fredonia, from tips on how to select an online username, advising the use of a free email account from YAHOO or Hotmail for personal (non-Fredonia student and business use) online use, to outlining specific steps victims of cyber harrassment should follow.

Please take the time to peruse the links below, and begin to practice the online safety tips that Ms. Hitchcock and others have outlined.

Remember. There are currently 30,000 cases of cyber harrassment cases reported yearly. Don't let one of those cases be YOU!
