France: Heavenly PortalsCourse Number/Name: INED 399 France: Heavenly Portals Course Description: Heavenly Portals explores the centrality of cathedrals in the formation of both the high and popular of Europe. Selected cathedrals of northern France serve as primary examples. Through the built environment of the cathedral we may consider the intellectual, spiritual, and political world of the Middle Ages, its rejection in the Eighteenth Century, and its restoration in the modern era.
