Course Number/Name: INED 399 Study Abroad in Puerto Rico

Course Description: Since 1898 when Spain ceded Puerto Rico to the United States at the end of the Spanish-American War, the mainland and the Free Associated Commonwealth of Puerto Rico have shared our history and our society. Students will experience the results of this relationship through class work and experience - both here and in San Juan at the largest of the University of Puerto Rico's eleven campuses. Cultural awareness will be augmented by visiting places of historical, social and environmental interest such as: Old San Juan, the Puerto Rican Museum of Art, Fajardo's world-renowned Bioluminescent Bay, The Cabo Rojo Salt Flats and El Yunque Rainforest. Research topics for the paper requirement of this interdisciplinary cultural immersion course will be chosen and begun in the fall upon instructor approval, and can be on any aspect of politics, history, music, ecology, economics, art, geology, language, geography, etc.  Students will earn three credit hours from the University of Puerto Rico in addition to the three credit hours from SUNY Fredonia.

Eligible Participants: Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in good academic standing are welcome to apply.

Application Deadline: October 1, 2008, late applications may be considered.

Tuition & Course Fee: $3197.20  (Call 673-3253 for information about financial aid options.) 

Tuition: $697.20 for three (3) undergraduate credit hours.

Course Fee: $2500 Includes round-trip airfare from New York City to San Juan, housing, breakfast and a   lunch daily, ground transportation, excursions, tour guides, and course materials.

***Special Note: Transportation to NYC, additional meals, and personal spending money is not included.
