The Computing Services staff is committed to improving customer productivity by enabling the use of tools and technologies to accomplish classroom instruction and conduct university business with a minimum of difficulty.

Systems administrators in this unit are highly qualified technicians who provide support for several university mission-critical services such as the Exchange email system, the ANGEL Learning Management System, the Banner Information System, and the Fredonia web. This group develops and maintains a level of technical expertise that enables them to provide the technical support resources needed by the institution. System administrators are responsible for systems stability, performance and recoverability. They proactively monitor all production systems for potential bottlenecks and make modifications to system configurations to improve performance and enhance system stability. Vendor sites are also monitored for current problems and required software upgrades. Patches for the problems are applied and product level upgrades are performed to keep software current and prevent potential system software failures. The support staff strives to maximize the amount of time the production systems are available, providing after-hours support only as critically needed and scheduling system maintenance during times that cause the least impact to the campus users.

The Operations staff is responsible for off-loading backups to off-site locations, scanning exams and course evaluations, and running specific administrative processes and print services related to SUNY Central and the Banner System output.

The center of Computing Services is the "raised floor area" called the ‘Machine Room’ or ‘Data Center’. This temperature, humidity, and access controlled facility houses all mission-critical computing platforms.
