SUNY Fredonia is running a pilot program for iTunes U during the 2009 - 2010 academic year. For both the Fall and Spring semester we will ask for volunteers to participate in the pilot and use iTunes U in conjuction with ANGEL for at least one course.
What is iTunes U?
iTunes U is a specialized area of the Apple iTunes store that allows higher education institutions to make audio and visual content available for download and subscription. This content can be made public or kept private for use in courses. Both audio and video can be added to iTunes U, with the file size limit being up to 500mb per file.
There will be minimal support during the pilot in the creation of audio or video for posting on iTunes U. All pilot participants will be expected to have prior knowledge on creating or obtaining content.
When using iTunes U we will be following all copyright laws. Only content created by the instructor or content that has been approved by the author can be posted. While iTunes U is a great place for streaming podcasts and posting sound clips, it cannot stream live audio or visual material.
While all course content is kept private to those students registered for the course, Fredonia does have content available in the public area for everyone to view. You will need to have iTunes installed on your computer to access this content.
If you are unable to participate for the Fall 2009 semester we will be running this pilot again for Spring 2010. If you have questions about iTunes U or are interested in being considered for the pilot please contact Lisa Melohusky at firstname.lastname@example.org.
