Internationally accredited chamber group performancing at Opera House
After winning a 2006 Grammy for
Classical Crossover album of the year,
the Ying Quartet has become one of the
most sought-after chamber music groups
in America.
The Iowa-born group will be making
an appearance at 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 at
the 1891 Fredonia Opera House. Siblings
Timothy (violin), Janet (violin), Phillip
(viola) and David Ying (cello) will be
bringing their fusion of traditional and
contemporary chamber music to Fredonia.
Currently in-residence at the Eastman
School of Music at the University of
Rochester, the quartet is responsible for
overlooking the chamber music curriculum
and performance schedules. Along
with their in-residencey at Eastman, the
Ying Quartet has been the Blodgett Artists
in Residence at Harvard University since
2001.
A quote from their Web site, ying4.com from the Los Angeles Times states,
"Their performance had it all handsomely
balanced tone and texture, rhythms living
happily within a compelling and interactive
framework of tempos, pertinent and
unexaggerated phrasing."
The Yings will be performing works
by classical icons Haydn and Ravel, along
with music from contemporary composers
Chou Wenchung, Leggierezza and Vivian
Fung.
Tickets for the performance are available
at the Opera House box office, or by
calling 679-1891. Prices range from $15
for the general public to $10 for students
and children.
