Women's basketball team begins new
season, Kindzia reaches 1,000th point
After ending their season with a SUNYAC loss last year, the women's basketball
team started the 2007-08 season with high hopes for future success.
Despite beginning the regular season with a loss against the Ohio team Notre Dame,
the Blue Devils managed to bounce back and win their home opener on Tuesday Nov.
20 against D'Youville College.
After leading by a mere three points after halftime, Fredonia kept pushing to maintain
the advantage. The final score was 64-54.
In addition to the win, three new players added leadership to their status this season as
senior forward Cheryl Kindzia, senior guard Maria Scaffidi and senior forward Michelle
Bull all received the honor of becoming captains. Kindzia became the sixth woman since
1984 to reach her 1,000 point as a Blue Devil in the game against D'Youville.
Following their hard-earned win, the women's basketball team took on Geneva
on Monday Nov. 26 only to have a let down. Though close to their opposition's score
throughout the entire game Fredonia was unable to battle back. The Blue Devils lost to
Geneva with a final score of 52-60 as their overall record bumped up to 2-2.
Fredonia will continue their hard work during away games for the rest of the semester.
They can next be seen against Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. on Friday Jan. 11 at home.
