How to Link to Databases from ANGEL

Linking to specific articles in a database

Sometimes you can link directly to a full-text article within the library's databases. To do so:

  1. You must link to the article using a "persistent" or permanent URL provided by the database. (NOTE: Not all databases provide a persistent link enabling you to link directly to articles.).  Each database is different. You may have to view the help files to see how to get to the persistent URL.
  2. You must provide the authentication information to ensure that students off campus will be able to login to the database. This information will be part of the link. (See "The authentication string" below.)

EBSCOHost Databases:

To copy a persistent link to a search:

  1. From a Result List, click the Display link to this search icon at the end of the search query displayed above the Find field. 
  2. The search query is displayed in a shaded area below the link. Highlight the link text and copy using your browser's copy function. You can immediately paste the link into a web site, document or email

GALE INFOTRAC

GALE databases include National Newspaper Index, Informe (Spanish-language newspapers and journals), Health Reference Center. Twayne's Author's Series)

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
Persistent URLs cannot be created for Lexis-Nexis articles at this time.

Proquest GenderWatch and Ethnic NewsWatch

Mark one or a series of full-text articles.

  1. Click on "Marked List" in Navigation bar.
  2. Click on "My Research Summary" tab.
  3. The newer, shorter full text link URL is displayed. Copy the Full Text Link(s)' URL into your course 
    (Hint: You can also copy and paste bibliographic citation into the course.)


Science Direct

  1. Find article; select article by clicking checkbox
  2. Click on "email articles"; choose "File Format: Plain Text ASCII"
  3. You will receive an email from Science Direct with a URL to the article.
  4. Copy and paste this link into Blackboard or ERes.


Using the authentication string for articles


To ensure that off-campus users can connect directly to articles, you must add the following authentication string to the beginning of the persistent URL:
