International Wind Conducting Symposium - UPDATED 4/26

The Sibelius Academy of Helsinki, Finland and the State University of New York at Fredonia are co-hosting the International Wind Conducting Symposium at the Sibelius Academy in June 2011. Join clinicians Peter Ettrup Larsen and Paula Holcomb as you observe and conduct in master classes and concert settings with the outstanding Finnish Guard Band and musicians from the Sibelius Academy. Immerse in the glorious Finnish Culture as you study conducting technique, rehearsal techniques, repertoire, baton technique, and score study. Masterworks and new compositions will be studied, prepared, and conducted. Podium time will be with the Finnish Guard Band and musicians from the Sibelius Academy. Graduate credit available.

Non-US students may sign up as Conductor/Participants for zero credit hours or may choose to register at SUNY Fredonia for 3 or 6 graduate credit hours.

All conductor/participants and graduate students will receive equal podium time.

Note: Registration does not include any travel, housing or meals. We have provided a worksheet to help plan for these expenses.

Introduction and Information session at the Sibelius Academy.

General conducting theory and preparing for the rehearsal on Monday.
Sessions will be video recorded and debriefings given later in the

Evening - Sightseeing tour of Helsinki.

  Savonlinna CastlePreparatory classes and optional trips to Suomenlinna (island with old fortress at the entrance to Helsinki harbor or the fun fair Linanmäkki.

  Dress rehearsal and concert with ensemble followed by traditional Finnish Sauna party.
