Bio:
Renee Anthony Dee is a member of the Akron Symphony and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra; she performs regularly with the Canton and Wheeling Symphonies and has served as principal bassoon and musician’s coordinator for the Cayman National Orchestra. An advocate of new music, she has premiered works for bassoon and contrabassoon at International Double Reed Society conferences and various new music festivals.
Renee has served on the faculties of The University of Akron, Ashland University, The College of Wooster, Bowling Green State University and The Cleveland Music School Settlement. She holds degrees from the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music and the University of Akron, and has done graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her principal teachers are John Miller, Ronald Phillips and Georgia Peeples.
In May 2006, at the request of newly appointed music director Christopher Wilkins, Renee joined the Akron Symphony staff as ad hoc Artistic Administrator. Over the next five years she was promoted twice, and was responsible for all aspects of artistic planning, production, and educational initiatives of the orchestra. Having resigned from the staff position in 2011, Renee continues to work with the Akron Youth Symphony, coaching wind sectionals and the AYS Woodwind Quintet.
Renee lives in Akron with her husband, Richard, and is thrilled to join Laura Koepke on the faculty of SUNY Fredonia.
