Flutist J. Nicole Zenns is an active freelance musician and public school music teacher.
She has been a NYSSMA woodwind adjudicator since 1997, and is a past president of
the Chautauqua County Music Teachers Association. Nicole performs regularly on second
flute and piccolo with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, with whom she has also
been a soloist. She can be heard as principal flute with the Clarence Summer Orchestra,
substitute with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Erie Philharmonic, and Chautauqua Symphony
Orchestras as well as the Zenns-Coester Flute and Guitar Duo, the Bach and Beyond
Music Festival in Fredonia, N.Y., and numerous other freelance orchestra and chamber
music ensembles throughout western New York and northern Pennsylvania. Nicole earned
B.M. and M.M. degrees as well as the Performer’s Certificate from SUNY Fredonia, where
she was a student of Susan Royal. She has furthered her study by performing in master
classes with Robert Dick, Robert Willoughby, Per Oien, Susan Milan, and others. In
recent years she has been greatly influenced by studying with Gary Schocker numerous
times. She holds a 200-hour certificate in Yoga Teacher Training, and continues to
study Alexander Technique with various teacher.
