Purpose

The Promise expresses Syracuse University's gratitude and appreciation for the historical, political, and cultural legacies of the Haudenosaunee and makes the university's rich educational experience available to admitted, qualified, first year and transfer American Indian students.

Eligibility

Student must be admitted to SU; a certified citizen of a Haudenosaunee nation; have resided on Haudenosaunee territory for a minimum of 4 years prior to and during their enrollment at SU; pursuing their first bachelor's degree; file for financial aid by published deadline; and maintain full-time status and meet the satisfactory academic progress standards of the University.

General Information

Eligible territories include Seneca - Tonawanda, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Oil Spring; Tuscarora; Onondaga; Oneida - NY and of the Thames; Mohawk - Akwesasne, Kanatsiohareke, Ganienke, Kahnawake, Kanesatake, Tyendinaga; and Six Nations (Grand River, Canada).

Awards

Financial assistance equal to the cost of tuition, housing and meals (on-campus), and mandatory fees for each year of full time undergraduate study.
