Purpose

To assist American Indians to enroll in courses to prepare for admission into health professions schools in the U.S. Courses may be compensatory (required to improve science, math, or other basic skills and knowledge) or preprofessional (required to qualify for admission into health professions program).

Eligibility

American Indian/Alaska Native (federal/state recognized); Accepted/enrolled in full or part time compensatory or preprofessional general education course or curriculum identified as a priority within IHS; Capacity to complete course of study; Intend to serve Indian people upon completion of curriculum.

General Information

Application and priority areas available on website. Submit application early for technical review by Area office; Scholarship requires annual application and is available for up to 3 years of full time study or 4 years of part time study. Those who meet continued eligibility requirements and are recommended for continuation are given priority for additional periods of support.

Awards

Vary. Funds appropriated by Congress.

Deadlines

Must be postmarked no later than March 28, 2007 and arrive at the appropriate office by the next business day. (request legible postmark and/or receipt.)
