Purpose
|
Foundation
established in 1992 to honor Congressman Morris K. Udall whose service
was distinguished by civility, integrity, and consensus. He instilled
love and respect for the environment and natural resources. Congressman
Udall championed rights of Native Americans/Alaska Natives and used his
leadership in Congress to strengthen tribal self-governance.

Eligibility
|
Native
American/Alaska Native students with at least a "B" average who
are college sophomores or juniors in the current academic year, have
outstanding potential and are in fields related to the environment,
health care or tribal public policy.

General Information
|
Student
must be nominated by faculty representatives of two-year and four-year
institutions; student may request their school's representation. One year
of support per application year. Scholars must attend orientation weekend
August 2-6, 2008. See website for nomination procedures, materials, and
faculty representatives.

Awards
|
Approximately
80 scholarships of $5,000 each or the cost of tuition, fees, books, and
room and board, whichever is less. 50 scholarships of $350 to honorable
mention recipients.

Deadlines
|
March
4, 2008. Receipt deadline for all nominations to Udall Scholarship
Committee. Note: application materials available in October; internal institution deadlines at discretion
of faculty representative.
