Purpose |
To assist American Indians to enroll in courses to prepare for admission into health professions schools in the U.S. Courses may be compensatory (required to improve science, math, or other basic skills and knowledge) or preprofessional (required to qualify for admission into health professions program). |
Eligibility |
American Indian/Alaska Native (federal/state recognized); Accepted/enrolled in full or part time compensatory or preprofessional general education course or curriculum identified as a priority within IHS; Capacity to complete course of study; Minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply or continue. Intend to serve Indian people upon completion of curriculum. |
General Information |
Online application will be available in December 2009. Application and priority areas available on website. Submit application early for technical review by the Area Scholarship Coordinator. Scholarship is available for up to 2 years full time study or 4 years part time study, with reapplication. Reapplicants who meet requirements and recommendations are given priority for additional periods of funding. |

Annual awards vary. Funds appropriated by Congress. |
Deadlines |
New applications must be postmarked no later than March 28, 2010 and be sent to the appropriate Area Scholarship Office. (request legible postmark and/or receipt.) Continuing applications must be postmarked no later that February 29, 2010 |
