Availability

Grants are ordinarily given for one year following the date of the award.

Eligibility

Applications accepted from graduate students for research on master's or doctoral dissertations; Prefer funding younger scholars who have received the doctorate. Questions about eligibility of applicant or project can be addressed to LMusumeci@amphilsoc.org.

Information

Phillips Fund supports research in Native American linguistics and ethno history (continental U.S., Canada.) Must provide APS with copies of materials acquired during the process of grant-funded research (i.e. tapes, transcription, microfilm) Individuals seldom receive more than two awards within a 5 year period. All information and forms available on website.

Benefits/Award

Average award is about $2,500; grants do not exceed $3,500. Grants intended for extra costs such as travel, tapes, films, informants' fees, but not general maintenance, purchase of books, or permanent equipment.

Deadline

March 1.
