Eligibility

American Indian and Alaska Native; Enrolled in a college or university as a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate student; In good academic standing.

Information

WINS has four components - Academic Course Work, Research, Government Agency Internship, and Cultural/Social Activities - each interwoven to emphasize traditional Native practices and values. All fees and costs paid through the internship sponsor and American University. Apply on-line or call for informational packet. Applications are processed as received.

Deadline

Generally, the first Friday in February, June, and October.  Check website to confirm the deadline dates for 2012.

Completed Application Form; Essay; Letter of Recommendation from Nation/Tribal Council or Education Department; Letter of Recommendation from Professor or College Administrator; Resume; Most Recent Transcript; Proof of Nation/Tribal Membership.
