University Commons to have Starbucks coffee shop
Monday, January 16, 2006

Starbucks – perhaps the most recognized coffee franchise in the world – will open a shop inside the University Commons at Cranston Hall, a $23 million-dollar project currently under construction in the heart of the SUNY Fredonia campus.

When complete, University Commons will boast new student living facilities, a dining hall and the school bookstore in addition to the Starbucks coffee shop.  The shop will be staffed and managed by FSA according to guidelines set by Starbucks Corporation. Starbucks Corporation is the leading retailer, roaster and brand of specialty coffee in the world.  The SUNY Fredonia Starbucks will feature the full line of the corporation’s coffees and teas, as well as sandwiches, fruit and other food products.

Students will be able to use their meal plans and dining points at the Starbucks shop, as they are already allowed at cafes across campus.
The shop will encompass 2,400 square feet – twice the size of a typical Starbucks outlet – and will include outdoor seating, a pleasant view of Old Main Drive, a fireplace, library tables, stools and a variety of other seating options.

The University Commons project is tentatively slated for completion during the summer of 2006. Once the work is complete, the Starbucks shop – one of only 40 licensed Starbucks campus franchises in the country – and the other businesses in the facility will open their doors to SUNY Fredonia students and members of the community.
