The music business is subject of guest lecture

Phil Galdston

The music business degree program at SUNY Fredonia is sponsoring a guest lecture by Phil Galdston, a songwriter, record producer and music publisher on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 3:30 p.m. in Williams Center Room S104. The event is free and open to all.

Mr. Galdston, who frequently writes and speaks on issues of intellectual property affecting the creators of music (read about his Congressional testimony here), has written music that has appeared on over 65 million records worldwide and in countless motion pictures.Artists who have recorded his songs include Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Kathy Mattea, Beyonce, Cher, Sheryl Crow, Yolanda Adams, Aaron Neville, and Marc Cohn.

His song, "Save the Best For Last," one of seven recorded by Vanessa Williams, simultaneously reached #1 on Billboard's three major charts, received four Grammy nominations, including song and record of the year, and was ASCAP's Song of the Year.

His work has appeared on 16 Grammy-nominated recordings and he has been honored with three ASCAP Pop Awards, an ASCAP Country Award, a Dove Award nomination, two NSAI citations, a Cable ACE Award nomination, the Time For Peace Award, and the Grand Prize of The American Song Festival.

Holding adjunct faculty posts at New York University and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Mr. Galdston has also taught as Songwriter in Residence at the Berklee College of Music.
