For the seventh consecutive year, SUNY Fredonia seniors majoring in mathematics education presented their lesson plan ideas at the annual Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) conference.

Professors Keary Howard and Tedi Cox of the mathematics department and Jamar Pickreign of the College of Education accompanied the 26 undergraduates and six graduate students who made the presentations to the conference held in Saratoga, N.Y.

In addition, four students hosted the day-long “Make It –Take It” activities that offered ready-made teaching materials for K-12 math teachers.

"The Fredonia presentations were well-attended," Professor Howard said.

The highlighted topics included teaching fractions with Play-Doh, activities for alternative bases, innovative math games, applications of graphing calculator software, and two-minute proofs of mathematical mysteries.
