Letter-writing campaign Saturday night will help St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Monday, November 08, 2010

An ambitious goal of 5,000 individual letters prepared by students that solicit donations from family members and friends to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital has been set for SUNY Fredonia’s fall “Up ‘Til Dawn” event to be held Saturday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at Dods Hall Gym.

For every five letters written, a student will receive a raffle ticket to win prizes donated by local vendors. Students may utilize pre-written letters that will be made available.

Letter-writing to benefit this worthy cause is the focus of the event, of course, but several attractions will add plenty of excitement to the evening. Performances by Much More Chill, Vocal Point, John Higgins, Step Team, Dance Team and Auto Punch are planned and Wing City will host a chicken-wing eating contest. A jousting tournament and Henna tattoos by Art Forum are also planned.

A week-long campaign leading up to the event, featuring giveaways at various locations on campus, will be held daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Student can sign ups at these sites.

“Up ‘Til Dawn” is sponsored by Wing City, WHOA Fredonia, ADEPT, Student Association, M&T Bank, Alumni Hall, Bohunk Entertainment and the men’s lacrosse team.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas, is a leading pediatric treatment and research facility focused on children's catastrophic diseases. It is located in Memphis, Tennessee. It is a nonprofit medical corporation chartered as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization under IRS regulations.
