Math, science/tech, engineering camp runs Aug. 15 - 18
Tuesday, July 19, 2011

SUNY Fredonia’s Project PRIME (Professional Resources In Mathematics Education) is offering Camp COMETS (Creating Opportunities in Mathematics, Engineering, Technology, and Science), designed to introduce talented middle school students (entering grades 6, 7 or 8) to advanced concepts in mathematics, engineering and science in fun, creative and engaging ways. During the four-day camp, children will have the opportunity to participate in daily projects/laboratories which simulate “real-world” situations that inspire imaginative thinking and problem-solving.

The camp is directed by SUNY Fredonia faculty in the Department of Mathematical Sciences as well as the College of Education. In addition, participants will be placed on teams headed by one of our camp counselors, all of whom are New York State certified mathematics teachers.

The day camp will run from August 15 through 18 from 8 a.m. to noon on the SUNY Fredonia campus. Students will be dropped off at Fenton Hall each morning. The cost is just $60 for all four days, although a limited number of scholarships are available.
