More than 175 SUNY Fredonia students, faculty and staff donated 130 units of blood to the American Red Cross during last week’s campus blood drive.
“I think it went very well; we had a good turnout,” reported Lisa Highway, recruitment manager for the Red Cross.
Response to this year’s drive was down as a result of the event’s relocation to the Dods Hall multipurpose room due to ongoing renovation work at the Williams Center. Just 38 people gave blood on the first day, Tuesday, but the donor number rebounded nicely to a more typical 138 the following day. The Red Cross attributes that second-day increase to additional signage placed on campus to promote the event.
“We appreciate people going the extra distance to Dods,” Highway said, which may not be as highly traveled as the Williams Center on a daily basis.
As a special perk, donors were treated to donuts courtesy of Dunkin’ Donuts in Dunkirk and received certificates for free cups of coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts for two weeks.
