Talk on opera in 19th century Italy slated for Friday

The Fredonia School of Music departments of Music History, Theory and Composition are hosting a lecture by Dr. Melina Esse of the Eastman School of Music on Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m., in Mason Hall Room 2140.

Her talk is titled, "History Repeating Itself: Poetic Improvisation and Embodied Memory in Early 19th Century Italy." Dr. Esse has a book forthcoming on female singers and stage performers in Italian opera. She will be giving a talk on opera performance, staging, and theatrical improvisation in 19th century Italy. It is a talk that should be of interest not only to opera lovers, but also to those in theater and performance, and poetic improvisation.
