Reception, exhibit set Thursday for visiting Chinese artists
Monday, October 21, 2013

SUNY Fredonia will host a welcoming reception for five visiting Chinese artists from the Shangyuan Art Museum Residency program on Thursday, Oct. 24, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Reed Library lobby.

The artists will exhibit their work and demonstrate Chinese ink drawing techniques at the gathering, which is being hosted by the College of Visual and Performing Arts, International Education Center and Provost’s Office.

Shangyuan Art Museum, an art community located near Beijing, grants six-month residencies to promising talent from China and around the world. It encourages individuality and independence in art and has evolved into a mecca for artists.

SUNY Fredonia Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Terry Brown learned of the Shangyuan Art Museum while she was Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Her initial visit to Shangyuan resulted in both the River Falls campus and Minneapolis College of Art and Design hosting Chinese students as well as artist residencies by students and faculty at Shangyuan.

The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
