Yves Geleyn to provide Visiting Artist presentation

Animator Yves Geleyn

Internationally known animator Yves Geleyn is slated to speak at the Fredonia as a part of its Visiting Artists Program. Hosted by Fredonia’s Department of Visual Arts and New Media, his presentation is on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 8:30 to 10 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 209.

Attendees will learn about Geleyn’s animation career, having helped to create both independent and commercial films for Passion Pictures in Paris, where he lives. Geleyn also works with New York City-based Hornet, Inc., an award-winning production company that supports agencies and brands through storytelling and design.

A native of Reading, England, the award-winning director he got his start in graphic design in Paris. He has since then gone on to direct numerous short films and short form content, many earning numerous international awards and accolades. Each of Geleyn’s projects shows sensibility, delicacy and poetry. His references are numerous: Japan, nature, animals, paintings and especially birds (which are present in all of his productions). Above all, the artist considers himself a storyteller, for story and characters are the most important things to him. With a love of mixing various styles, he has found that the technique is always only there to serve the story. Textures, colors, forms, patterns, illustration, CG, paper cutouts and traditional animation are all in his giant toolbox of techniques.
