Women's Volleyball remains perfect in conference

Fredonia's Jessica DiChristopher led the Blue Devils with 13 kills in the team's three-set sweep of Oneonta on Friday.

The Fredonia university women's volleyball team remained a perfect 6-0 in conference play with 3-0 sweeps of Cortland and Potsdam on Saturday.

The Devils won convincingly over Cortland, 25-12, 25-16 and 25-18. The offense was led by Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y. / Penfield) with 11 kills and Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Baldwinsville) with 10 kills. Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga, N.Y. / West Seneca East) added seven kills and three service aces. Kelly Edinger (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Athena) had 31 assists.

Defensively, Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y. / St. Mary's) had 14 digs and DiChristopher dominated the net with nine blocks.

Against Potsdam, Fredonia won by set scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20. Madison and DiChristopher had nine kills apiece, while Edinger added another 24 assists. Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) had four service aces. DiChristopher and Edinger each had four block assists, and Hokaj led the team with 17 digs.

The Devils are now 18-7 overall.

"We were pretty consistent today, which is something we've been striving for," said head coach Geoff Braun. "We seem to be more focused and we're making adjustments during matches more easily."

Fredonia will take on Houghton in Dods Hall this Thursday. In two weeks, they return to Dods Hall for the final round of Pool Play. The Devils will play host to New Paltz on Friday, Oct. 24. The Hawks are the only other undefeated team in the SUNYAC. Saturday, Oct. 25 will see the Devils tangle with Oswego and Geneseo.
