Ninth annual String Experience welcomes young musicians to Fredonia

Now in its ninth year, the annual String Experience workshop hosted by the Fredonia School of Music will welcome middle and high school-aged violinists, violists, cellists and bassists on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The full day of workshops, starting at 10 a.m. and concluding at 5:30 p.m., will take place in Mason Hall.

The String Experience will give student musicians the opportunity to improve performance and practice techniques, interact with other string players, work on overcoming stage fright and prepare for future auditions. Technical skills such as shifting, intonation and tone production will be covered in small group instruction.

Fredonia’s distinguished faculty artists, Dr. David Colwell, Maureen Yuen, David Rose and Dr. Natasha Farny will be featured at String Experience in a faculty recital along with new double bass faculty members Kieran Hanlon and Brett Shurtliffe.

“The String Experience exemplifies the unique one-on-one relationship that is fostered between students and teachers at Fredonia," commented Dr. Colwell.

Advance student registration is required by Saturday, Nov. 1. The cost of attendance is $30 and includes lunch. Parents and teachers may attend free of cost.

Registration and event details are available at http://www.fredonia.edu/music/community/string.asp. For more information about the String Experience, please contact David Colwell by email at David.Colwell@fredonia.edu.
