Michael Jabot recognized for excellence in teaching

Fredonia science education professor Dr. Michael Jabot was recognized by the Science Teachers Association of New York State with the Excellence in Science Teaching Award.The award was presented at the organization’s recent annual conference which took place from Nov. 1 to Nov. 4 at the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester.

Jabot, in addition to his role as professor of Science Education at Fredonia, is director of the Institute for Research in Science Teaching. He has been involved in science education research across the nation and internationally. Most recently he has served on the Lead Team for the Next Generation of Science Standards (NGSS). His current research focuses on the use of Big Ideas in the shaping of learning progressions around Education for Sustainability (EfS) and how the curriculum interventions in classrooms help shape student actions.

The STANYS annual conference is a four-day event that brings together science education professionals for a series of workshops and fun science-themed activities.
