Dr. Marcus Vink

Department of History Professor Markus Vink recently accepted an invitation by Dr. Jos Gommans of Leiden University to join the advisory board of the Dutch Studies in Colonial and Global History Series to be published by Leiden University Press.

The appointment marks the third time over the past year that Dr. Vink has been invited to sit on an academic publication board. The other two seats include the editorial board of the Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient (JESHO), published by Brill Academic Publishers in Leiden, the Netherlands, and the advisory board of the new Indian Ocean Studies Series, published by Ohio University Press.

Vink's current research focuses on Afro-Eurasia in the early modern period in general, and the 17th century Dutch Republic, Indian Ocean World (IOW) and southeast India in particular, including issues such as cross-cultural encounters; slavery and slave trade; religion and religious relations; trade, diplomacy and international law; community and caste formation; and representation. Vink earned his doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota.
