One day after finishing second in one race, Fredonia senior Zakk Hess (Newark, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) was back at it again Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Golden Flash Gala track and field meet hosted by Kent State.

Hess finished second Friday in the 5,000 meters and won the 3,000 meters Saturday with a time of 8:40.87. His time Saturday and his 5K time Friday of 15:01.44 are his collegiate-bests.

Five other Fredonia men participated in Saturday's 3K. Among them, Kyle Collins (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) finished fifth, Chris Shartrand (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Shenendehowa) sixth, and Bobby Cooper (Macedon, N.Y./Gananda) eighth.

In other running events, Pat Shenal (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) was fourth in the mile, and Brendan Beiersdorfer (Elmhurst, N.Y./Island Trees) fourth in the 800 meters.

Fredonia's top finisher in field events was freshman Rocky Caparro (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner), who was fifth in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump.

Doug Imperi (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) was 12th and Mitchel Paciga (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West) 13th in the heptathlon.
