WNY Chamber Orchestra to feature Fredonia faculty in new works

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra, a professional ensemble-in-residence at Fredonia, will present “Miraculous Miracles II,” in February, featuring School of Music faculty members, guitarist James Piorkowski, soprano Julie Newell, harpist Sonja Inglefield and woodwind artist Sarah Hamilton as guest soloists.

There will be two performances, the first on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m., at the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church at 4369 S. Buffalo Road. The second is slated at Fredonia in Rosch Recital Hall on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m.

Featured works are all world premiere arrangements. Mr. Piorkowski will perform Bizet’s “Carmen Fantasy” and Ms. Newell will be guest soloist in Mahler's “Songs of a Wayfarer,” both in new chamber arrangements by WNYCO's Music Director Glen Cortese.

Also on the program is a world premiere composition by Mr. Cortese, “Nocturne,” featuring harpist Ms. Inglefield. Rounding out the program is Copland's, “A Quiet City,” with Dr. Hamilton as guest on English horn.

Tickets for the Fredonia performance may be purchased at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center at 673-3501. Tickets for the Orchard Park performance may be purchased at the door the evening of the performance.
