Vassoler-Froelich author of book chapter

Dr. Ivani Vassoler-Froelich

Associate Professor Ivani Vassoler-Froelich of the Department of Politics and International Affairs is the co-author of, "Ideas in Motion: Angst and Hope in the Theory of Dependence," a chapter in “Merchants of Light: Conversations with Outstanding Scholars in the Social Sciences."

Her chapter, in collaboration with Dr. Jesus Trevino-Cantu, the book’s editor, explores the intellectual work of Theotonio dos Santos, a Brazilian social scientist and an internationally renowned scholar for his seminal contribution, in the 1970s, to the Theory of Dependence, one of the pillars of Latin America's political and economic thought.

The chapter builds on Dr. Vassoler-Froelich’s scholarly activities focusing on Latin America's political development and the region's relations with the United States, which are themes of her teaching at Fredonia.

In order to complete the article, Vassoler-Froelich interviewed Dr. dos Santos in Rio de Janeiro in June 2013.
