Psychologist Zevenbergen to give President’s Award for Excellence presentation

The Department of Psychology’s Andrea Zevenbergen will present her President’s Award of Excellence lecture, “Student Advising: Searching for Direction and Meaning,” on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.

Joining Fredonia in 2001, Dr. Zevenbergen teaches courses on child psychology, theories of psychotherapy, and counseling. In addition to her teaching, she conducts research in the broad area of parent-child interactions, specifically parental educational interactions with preschoolers and effective parental discipline behaviors. She has collaborated with many of her students on research, releasing a number of publications.

Students have given her high ratings for enthusiasm, knowledge of material, organization, stimulation of thinking and availability, receiving Psychology Club’s “Teacher of the Year” seven times.

Zevenbergen has served as the Faculty Athletics Representative, providing guidance to student-athletes, and also as the internship coordinator for the Department of Psychology. Zevenbergen earned a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and a master’s degree in Psychology, both from SUNY Stony Brook, and a bachelor’s in Psychology from Northwestern University.

Zevenbergen was one of five 2014 President’s Award recipients including Director of Career Development Tracy Collingwood, Senior Grounds Worker Brent Kawski, Men’s Hockey Coach Jeffrey Meredith and Dr. W. Theodore “Ted” Lee of the Department of Biology.
