Music Therapy Awareness Week to bring campus presentations

A variety of educational presentations – all geared to promote music therapy as a profession and raise public understanding of music therapy is and how it benefits clients – will be given at Fredonia during Music Therapy Awareness Week, March 2 to 6, at several campus locations.

The Fredonia Music Therapy Club, the event sponsor, will bring professional music therapists to campus to give the presentations that are free and open to the public. Nearly a dozen campus organizations will also contribute their time and talents.

Individual presentations include:

  • “Together in Music: Developing Social Skills Through an Intensive Treatment Model,” by Conio Loretto and Beth Deyermond, on Monday, March 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Mason Hall Room 2019.
  • “Music Therapy Intern Self-Care,” by Stephanie Spry, Tuesday, March 3, from 4 to 5 p.m., Williams Center Room G103B.
  • “Spirituality in Music Therapy: Implications for Professionals and Clients,” Caitlin O’ Reilly, Wednesday, March 4, from 4 to 5 p.m., Williams Center Room G103B.
  • “Spread the Word to End the Word” an open mic night, in collaboration with Voices for Autism, Council for Exceptional Children’s Club, Fredonia for St. Jude, Operation Smile, NSSLHA, Social Work Club, Women’s Student Union, Enactus and a cappella groups Some Like it Hot and Much More Chill, Wednesday, March 4, from 7 to 10 p.m., Tim Horton’s and The Spot in the Williams Center.
  • Drum circle, in collaboration with the Improv Collective, Thursday, March 5, from 7 to 8 p.m., Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
  • Music therapy recital, Friday, March 6, from 7 to 8 p.m., Diers Recital Hall in Mason Hall.
