Children’s Concert Series features Fredonia School of Music trombone quartet March 7
Tuesday, January 27, 2015

The Children’s Concert Series continues its ninth season with the Fredonia School of Music trombone quartet on Saturday, March 7 at the Dunkirk Free Library.

There will be two performances, one at 10:30 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m., each lasting one half hour. The event is free and open to the public.

Fredonia’s student trombone quartet is composed of four New York State residents, including Peter Wall of Newfield, Johanna Wiley of Westtown, Samantha Pedneault of East Moriches and Zachary Ames of Monticello.

Planned with the help of experienced Fredonia faculty, the series is designed to introduce children from infants to age 6 to various musical instruments. It is a child-friendly environment where children have the opportunity to sit close to the performers and experience musical performances by selected Fredonia School of Music ensembles. Family members are encouraged to bring blankets or carpet squares to sit on during the performance. Strollers can be parked around the edges of the seating area.

"It's wonderful to see the musical relationship between the children and the college student performers develop as the concert progresses. The musicians are sharing music they love, and the children certainly respond to that," said Sarah Hamilton, associate professor of oboe.

The Children's Concert Series is part of the Musical Journeys Program, a community outreach project offered by the Fredonia School of Music. For more information on the program or upcoming events, please visit or call (716) 673-4628.
