Social Work senior receives award

EmilyAnn Pleszewski, a senior social work major from Fredonia, has been selected as the 2015 National Association of Social Workers (NASW) New York State Western Division Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) Student of the Year.

The NASW award is given to master’s degree and baccalaureate level students who have demonstrated academic excellence and personify the values of Social Work as defined by the NASW Professional Code of Ethics. The award was presented to Ms. Pleszewski at the NASW annual awards luncheon on March 26 at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center in Amherst.

Carrying an impressive 3.8 GPA and on the fast track to the Master in Social Work (MSW) Advanced Standing program at the University of Buffalo, Pleszewski has been described as an intelligent young woman of integrity who embodies this profession in every aspect of her lifestyle.

Pleszewski has most recently assisted Rolanda L. Ward, assistant professor of Social Work, on the project, “Leaving Correctional Facilities:, Understanding what it means and how it shapes the transition to adulthood.” In this context, Pleszewski excelled in areas of Social Work such as data tracking and analysis.

For Pleszewski, building and fostering relationships holds the key to her success as those who know her would describe her as both engaging and engaged. In attempts to give back to the community, Pleszewski also volunteers coaching soccer.

In the midst of her final stretch at Fredonia, Pleszewki would like to thank all of her professors for their inspiration, support, knowledge, and the opportunities given in order to gain more experience in her desired field.
