Desens breaks shot put record

Nicole Desens now owns both the indoor and outdoor school records in the shot put.

Nicole Desens (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington) broke the Fredonia school record in the outdoor shot put on April 4, eclipsing the record held by her current coach Julia Williamson.

Desens's throw of 13.20 meters bested current assistant coach Williamson's record of 12.94 meters set in 2009. It was also better than Desens's 13.01-meter throw a month ago that set Fredonia's indoor school record.

The Blue Devils were competing across state lines on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday after inclement weather forced them to reschedule their plans to travel to the University at Rochester.

The women finished third out of the 12 teams competing at the event.

Olivia Kurbs (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) won the pole vault at the meet, clearing 3.20 meters. She was closely followed by teammates Kristen Sawyer (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), Julia Schreier (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), and Mikayla Capestrani (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown), who all cleared 3.05 meters.

Kurbs holds both the indoor record (3.50 meters) and outdoor record (3.25 meters) in the pole vault.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Anna Dambacher (Divernon, Ill./Auburn), Kim Foltz (Elbridge, N.Y./Jordan - Elbridge), Brittany Feldman (Jamestown, N.Y. / Southwestern), and Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) finished third on Saturday with a time of 4:02.17. They are now within one second of the school record of 4:01.68.

Dambacher finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.12 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (26.58 seconds).

The Blue Devils travel to Lewisburg, Pa.,. next weekend for the Bucknell Outdoor Classic.
