School of Music Reese's writing featured in book and journal

Dr. Jill Reese

Assistant Professor Jill Reese of the School of Music co-authored a chapter in the book, “Curriculum and Assessment in Music Education.”

Dr. Reese’s chapter, “Movement for Music Development,” focuses on applying research regarding music and movement development to classroom pedagogy and assessment.

The book is edited by Colleen Conway and published by GIA Publications.

Dr. Reese teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including general music methods, early childhood music, history and philosophy of music education, and research methods. She has established partnerships with child care and preschool programs in the area that benefit students at Fredonia as well as children in the community.

In addition, Dr. Reese’s article, "Virtual Mentoring of Preservice Teachers: Mentors’ Perceptions" will be published in the Journal of Music Teacher Education. The purpose of the study was to describe music teachers’ perceptions of the benefits and challenges they experienced as virtual mentors of pre-service music teachers, and was based on virtual mentoring experiences Reese includes in her courses. The pre-service teachers and mentor teachers use technology to observe each other's teaching and to collaboratively reflect on their observation experiences. It is a follow up to her previously published research study, "Online Status: Virtual Field Experiences and Mentoring During an Elementary General Music Methods Course."
