Tuesday, May 26, 2015

"How to Build It So They Come: Using Quality Function Deployment to Design a Student Management Club" – a research paper compiled by three students at Fredonia – has been accepted by the Business Research Consortium of Western New York for publication in one or more of its academic journals.

Co-authors Nathan Luciano, a 2015 graduate who majored in Business Administration/Management from Stockton; Mary Bolo of Gowanda, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh pursuing an M.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies at Fredonia; and Tyler Lokietek, a junior Business Administration/Management major from Fredonia, utilized the operational tool Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to design an on-campus branch of a national professional organization.

The students compiled an analytical assessment of primary and secondary research from the perspectives of students, local employers and online resources to determine specific student group activities that would most likely facilitate future employment opportunities. Bridging the gap between academics and the workplace in an efficient, effective manner was one example cited.

Dr. Lisa Walters, a member of the School of Business faculty, introduced the research topic to the students in Production and Operations Management II, an upper-level course she teaches, and mentored them through revisions, research and submission of the paper.
