Baseball adds Driscoll, Sturm to staff

Nolan Driscoll was a team captain for the Clarkson Golden Knights. He will work with the Blue Devil hitters this year. Steve Sturm enters his sixth season with the Blue Devils, and first as a coach. He played five seasons at Fredonia.

The Fredonia baseball team added Nolan Driscoll (Trot, N.Y. / Clarkson Univ.) and Fredonia alum Steve Sturm (Amherst, N.Y. / Fredonia / Amherst H.S.) to the coaching staff as assistants. Driscoll will work with the team's hitters as well as assist with recruiting. Sturm will work with the pitchers and help with game day operations.

Driscoll graduated from Clarkson University where he captained the team in the spring of 2015. The Golden Knights put together one of the most successful seasons in school history, going 24-9 with Driscoll as the starting firstbaseman.

He spent this past summer as an assistant coach with the Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game League. He had previously coached with the South Troy Dodgers.

Sturm has spent the past five seasons on the Blue Devil roster, missing most of 2013 with a medical red shirt. In his five seasons, he was 6-4 with a 4.85 ERA in 108 innings of work as a starting pitcher. Sturm also worked for the sports information department the past five years. He will complete his Master's in Education in the spring of 2016.

Head coach Matt Palisin looks forward to working with the new hires. "Steve and Nolan are high-character individuals with a great knowledge of what it takes to be successful at the Division III level. They are great additions to our staff."
