Fredonia to host residency, performance by Lehrer Dance

The internationally recognized Lehrer Dance Company will conduct a week-long residency, Sept. 14 to 18, that concludes with an informal presentation of works in development.

The showing of the new works will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. in the Dods Hall dance studio and is free and open to the public.

Throughout the week, members of the Buffalo-based dance company, led by Jon Lehrer, will rehearse new works for its upcoming season and also teach classes to students through the Department of Theatre and Dance.

A free master class, “Introduction to Lehrer Dance Technique,” will be offered to the campus community on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., also in the Dods studio. Seating is limited to the first 40 participants.

Lehrer Dance tours nationally and internationally with a repertoire that offers new standards in the dance world, and works by founder Lehrer have been described as exuberant, irresistible, breathless and spellbinding. For the fourth year in a row, Lehrer Dance will launch the M&T Bank Dance Series on Oct. 3 with its trademark blend of artistry and athleticism in at the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts.

Funding for Lehrer Dance’s residency has been provided by a grant from the Carnahan-Jackson Humanities Fund through the Fredonia College Foundation.
