Dahlgren to present research at NCSS Annual Conference in New Orleans

Dr. Robert Dahlgren

Robert Dahlgren, associate professor of Social Studies Education and chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education will present his research on the history of academic freedom in higher education at the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)  in New Orleans, La. on Nov. 13.

Dr. Dahlgren received his Ph.D. in Social Studies Education from the University of Florida in August 2008. Before beginning his doctoral studies, he taught social studies in Kindergarten to 12 public schools in the Boston, Mass., and Jacksonville, Fla. areas for seven years. In addition, he taught in the Graduate Education department of Simmons College in Boston for two years and in the College of Education at Miyazaki University in Japan for three years. In his undergraduate and graduate level courses, Dahlgren’s goal is to provide practical instruction for pre-service teachers in order to inspire them to teach students to be lifelong learners in the social studies.

Founded in 1921, the National Council for the Social Studies has grown to be the largest association in the country devoted solely to social studies education. At the NCSS Annual Conference, thousands of attendees learn from presentations, receive classroom-ready lessons, network with colleagues, listen to keynote speakers who are leaders in their fields, and explore the exhibit hall with more than 150 exhibitors.
