Fredonia awards first SUNY-Santander Global Scholarship for study in Mexico

Kiri Ramos, a senior from Warwick majoring in Childhood Inclusive Education and Spanish, has received Fredonia’s inaugural SUNY-Santander Global Scholarship to support a study abroad experience in Mexico.

Ramos will use the $5,000 award to attend Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP), located in Puebla, Mexico’s fourth-largest city, during the 2016 spring semester. Her course work will be related to her Spanish studies and include language, culture and history. Currently completing a student teaching experience in New York City, Ramos will live with a host family in Puebla.

Fredonia has an exchange program with UPAEP, which was founded in 1973 and offers 41 undergraduate programs.

The SUNY-Santander Global Scholars Program, a new initiative between SUNY and Santander Bank, provides scholarships to students to study abroad in Central and Latin America. Fredonia received $10,000 to allocate among students who study in Mexico during the 2016 spring and fall semesters.

Students interested in studying for a semester at UPAEP in Puebla will automatically be considered to receive remaining scholarship funds that they can be apply towards tuition, lodging, transportation and other uses.
