DMR is first, Feldman sets 300 record

Fredonia's winning DMR quartet of Hannah Kurbs, Brittany Feldman, Bonnie Binggeli, and Laura Morrison.

Fredonia senior Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished third in the 3,000 meters and anchored the winning distance medley relay Saturday at the Greg Page Relays held at Cornell.

Another member of the relay, sophomore Brittany Feldman (Jamestown), set a school record in an individual event.

Morrison, coming off an appearance in the NCAA Division III cross country championship race, was clocked in 10:22.02 in the 3K -- just over three seconds behind the winner -- while finishing behind a Cornell alum and a Cornell freshman. It is the third fastest Fredonia 3,000-meter time ever. Bonnie Binggeli. a junior, (Walworth) was ninth in the same race.

Those same two runners, along with freshman Hannah Kurbs (Lockport) and Feldmann, combined for a winning time of 12:29.09 in the DMR, ahead of the second-place quartet from Syracuse by 11.24 seconds. There were eight relays in the race, three from Fredonia.

Feldmann was also 20th in a field of 83 women in the 300 meters with a time of 42.63 seconds. It set a new school record in the event.

The top Fredonia field performers were sophomore pole vaulters Julia Schreier (Lockport) and Kristen Sawyer (Lockport), sixth and seventh, respectively. Schreier cleared 3.30 meters (10 feet, 10 inches), Sawyer 3.15 meters (10 feet, 4 inches).

Also, sophomore Sarah Couperus (Marion, N.Y.) was seventh in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch).

On Friday, junior Taylor Benzin (Depew) finished sixth in the pentathlon with 1,859 points. Her best score -- 470 points -- came in the high jump with a clearance of 4 feet, 5.5 inches.
