Kinkela contributing editor of ‘America in the World’

Dr. David Kinkela

History Professor David Kinkela served as a contributing editor of the recently published, “America in the World, 1776 to the Present: A Supplement to the Dictionary of American History,” 1st Edition.

One of three contributing editors, Dr. Kinkela, whose research focuses on environmental politics, developed and shepherded all entries from the period 1945 to the present. Dr. Peter McCord, a history department colleague, contributed six entries.

The two-volume set that consists of 1,255 pages and approximately 550 individual entries recasts generally accepted views of U.S. history and world history, contending that neither the United States nor the world can be understood without sufficient attention being given to the other.

Intended for undergraduates, “America in the World” will respond the needs of students while satisfying the general reader’s increasing curiosity about America’s role on the world scene. It examines the impact of U.S. politics not only nationally, on the domestic agenda, but globally, and presents reactions of the world’s nations to America’s rise to prominence.

“America in the World” was published in January by Charles Scribner’s Sons, part of Macmillan Reference USA.
