Cassandra Rubin, who is majoring in Early Childhood Education, has received a $2,000 scholarship from Tau Sigma, the national honor society for transfer students.

The award is the largest Tau Sigma scholarship received by a Fredonia student in the eight-year history of the campus chapter.

A strong advocate for transfer students, Ms. Rubin has assisted Fredonia’s student transfer population through her work with Tau Sigma and Transfer Student Organization. She has also served as a Transfer Connections mentor and resident assistant, and will become president of the Tau Sigma chapter next year.

Rubin presented at the Tau Sigma national conference in Washington, D.C, and attended the New York State Association for the Education of Young Children annual conference in Verona, N.Y.

She is a member of Golden Key International Honour Society, vice president of Early Childhood Education Club, recipient of a Class of 1954 Scholarship through the Fredonia College Foundation and was recently named Resident Assistant of the Month by the Office of Residence Life.

Transferring to Fredonia from another SUNY institution, Rubin is a graduate of Hicksville High School and a daughter of Daniel Rubin and Kerry Devine. She plans to earn a master’s degree in education after graduating from Fredonia in 2017.
